Devin Dreeshen, the Minister of Transportation for Alberta has specifically asked Edmonton to stop work on the bike lane project. He claims that the north side of the city is undergoing 30 blocks worth of bike lanes construction, which is a vehicle lane adding detriment to the provincial road system.
