Man With Alleged Ties to International Extortion Network Arrested in Edmonton

Edmonton, Alberta | July 2, 2026

The Edmonton Police Service (EPS) has arrested Safaldeep Singh (22), who police say has suspected links to the international criminal network known as the “For Brothers” gang, an organized crime group allegedly involved in extortion and targeted violence against South Asian business owners and community members across Canada and the United States.

According to EPS, the investigation began on May 4, 2026, when patrol officers stopped a Dodge Charger after receiving reports of dangerous driving. During a search of the vehicle, officers recovered a loaded firearm and controlled substances.

All three were charged with multiple drug trafficking and firearms-related offences.

Further investigations led officers to execute search warrants at Singh’s Edmonton residence on May 28 and June 23, 2026. Police say they discovered evidence linked to an alleged vehicle “re-vinning” operation associated with extortion-related crimes.

On June 23, Singh was arrested again and charged with:

    • Trafficking in property obtained by crime
    • Possession of stolen property
    • Unauthorized possession of a firearm

Police also arrested him on Canada-wide warrants issued in Ontario for conspiracy to commit murder and extortion. After processing in Edmonton, Singh was transferred to Ontario to face those charges.

Staff Sergeant Eric Stewart of the EPS Investigations Branch said the case highlights the importance of intelligence sharing and cooperation between police agencies across Canada. He credited the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) and Peel Regional Police for their collaboration in the investigation.

Deputy Chief Nick Milinovich of Peel Regional Police said extortion and targeted violence have significantly affected South Asian families and businesses, adding that joint investigations are essential to bringing offenders to justice.

The investigation forms part of Project Insight, Edmonton Police’s latest initiative targeting organized extortion networks affecting the South Asian community. The project focuses on real-time intelligence sharing and coordinated enforcement across jurisdictions.
