Edmonton, Canada: Edmonton police have charged a 22-year-old man with second-degree murder following the death of 48-year-old Sukhjit Randhawa in central Edmonton.
Police said officers from the Downtown Branch responded shortly before 1 p.m. on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, to reports of an injured man in the area of 112 Avenue and 82 Street.
When officers arrived, they found Randhawa suffering from serious injuries. EMS treated him at the scene before transporting him to hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
The Edmonton Police Service Homicide Section took over the investigation.
An autopsy was completed by the Edmonton Medical Examiner’s Office on Thursday, August 6. The Medical Examiner determined that Randhawa’s manner of death was homicide. Police said the specific cause of death is being withheld for investigative reasons.
Nicholas Butler-Chowace, 22, has been charged with second-degree murder.
Police said investigators are not seeking any additional suspects at this time.
