West Edmonton, September 13, 2026: The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) is investigating an officer-involved shooting that left a 36-year-old man dead in west Edmonton on Sunday morning.
At approximately 9:59 a.m. on September 13, the Edmonton Police Service (EPS) responded to a reported shooting at a residence in the area of Donsdale Drive and 45 Avenue.
Police said a male armed with a firearm had entered the home and reportedly shot a woman and an infant inside.
When officers arrived, witnesses and the injured people were at the scene. Officers immediately established containment around the residence.
During the incident, the adult male suspect opened the front door while holding a firearm. Police said officers gave him verbal commands, but he did not comply. Three officers then discharged their firearms.
EPS Tactical and Canine Units subsequently arrived, and the man was eventually taken into custody.
The EPS Tactical Emergency Medical Support team attempted life-saving measures, but the 36-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Two adult females and an infant were also treated by EMS and transported to hospital. Their injuries were reported to be non-life-threatening.
No Edmonton police officers were injured in the incident.
The EPS submitted a 43.2 notification to the CEO of the Police Review Commission. The CEO subsequently directed ASIRT to investigate the circumstances surrounding the officer-involved shooting.
