Edmonton, Sept. 10, 2026: Edmonton Police Service (EPS) officers, along with the City of Edmonton’s automated enforcement program, issued a total of 555 traffic violations during the latest “Operation 24 Hours” enforcement campaign.
The violations were recorded during a 24-hour period on September 3, 2026, across Edmonton.
According to EPS, the violations included:
- 181 speeding violations
- 7 distracted driving violations
- 108 hazardous moving violations
- 166 non-hazardous Traffic Safety Act infractions, including equipment and document-related offences
- 87 automated red-light violations
Police also laid four Criminal Code driving charges and two other Criminal Code charges following vehicle stops during the enforcement period.
One of the most serious incidents involved a vehicle recorded travelling at 101 km/h in a 50 km/h construction zone near 142 Street and Yellowhead Trail. The driver was issued a mandatory court summons.
Staff Sergeant Mike Wasylyshen of the EPS Specialized Traffic Section said the results demonstrate that dangerous driving continues to be a serious concern in Edmonton.
With students returning to school this month, EPS is urging motorists to slow down, remain alert and make safer choices on the road.
Police reminded drivers that dangerous driving is not only illegal but can also have deadly consequences.
“Operation 24 Hours” is one of several joint enforcement campaigns conducted throughout the year by EPS and the City of Edmonton. The campaigns focus on reducing high-risk driving behaviours and improving road safety across the city.
