Edmonton, August , 2026: A major road closure is set to begin around August 16 as part of the Capital Line South LRT Extension – Phase 1 project.
Ledcor, the project’s Design-Build contractor, will fully close 9 Avenue west of 111 Street for approximately 10 weeks. Crews will carry out drainage, utility, ductbank, road and trackwork, along with removals.
Drivers will be detoured to 12 Avenue, while southbound traffic will use 9 Avenue East where required.
The City says five traffic lanes will remain open at 12 Avenue West to help maintain traffic flow and emergency access to Twin Brooks.
Emergency services will primarily use 12 Avenue, while construction crews will maintain an emergency-vehicle access route through the closed intersection whenever construction conditions allow.
Pedestrians and cyclists will continue to have access through designated crosswalks, with detour signs, barriers and temporary walkways in place.
Bus Route 713 will also be detoured via 113 Street and 12 Avenue. Parking will not be permitted on the east side of 113 Street to maintain bus access.
Meanwhile, 111 Street at the Blackmud Creek bridge will continue to have one lane open in each direction until fall 2026.
The City says the accelerated intersection closures are designed to allow critical road and LRT trackwork to be completed simultaneously, reducing disruptions in future years.
