EDMONTON, Alberta | November 6, 2026
Motorists travelling across Edmonton should prepare for temporary road closures, lane restrictions and changing traffic patterns between November 7 and November 12 as several major construction projects continue across the city.
The City of Edmonton has issued a traffic advisory to help commuters plan their journeys and avoid potential delays. The construction work is part of ongoing infrastructure improvements aimed at making Edmonton’s transportation network safer, more accessible and efficient.
Here are the key traffic disruptions drivers need to know about:
1. Scona Road and 98 Avenue Bridge
Northbound Scona Road will be reduced to one lane from 8 a.m. on Saturday, November 7, until 8 p.m. on Sunday, November 8.
Additionally, travel lanes on 98 Avenue will be reduced between 101 Street and just beyond the 98 Avenue Bridge from 6 a.m. Saturday, November 7, until 6 a.m. Monday, November 9.
The lane restrictions are weather-dependent.
2. 50 Street Widening and Railway Grade Separation
Construction-related paving work will affect southbound traffic on 50 Street between 90 Avenue and the Sherwood Park Freeway.
Beginning at 5 a.m. on November 6, southbound lanes will be closed, with traffic shifted to the northbound lanes. One lane in each direction will remain open.
The closure is scheduled to continue until 5 a.m. Monday, November 9. Drivers are advised to plan ahead and allow additional travel time.
3. Yellowhead Trail: St. Albert Trail to 97 Street
Traffic patterns at the St. Albert Trail and Yellowhead Trail interchange will change through Sunday, November 8.
The updated traffic configuration includes:
- Two northbound lanes and two northbound-to-westbound lanes on St. Albert Trail.
- Two southbound lanes and two southbound-to-eastbound lanes on St. Albert Trail.
- Two eastbound-to-northbound lanes and one shared through/right-turn lane on the eastbound Yellowhead Trail exit.
- Two westbound-to-southbound lanes, one through lane and two westbound-to-northbound lanes on the westbound Yellowhead Trail exit.
Motorists should follow posted signs and remain alert while navigating the interchange.
4. Terwillegar Drive Stage 3
Daytime paving work is scheduled on both northbound and southbound lanes of Terwillegar Drive near Windermere Boulevard from Monday, November 9, through Friday, November 20.
The work will be completed in stages to maintain traffic flow. Construction activities will also be weather-dependent.
Drivers are encouraged to follow temporary traffic signs and exercise caution in the construction area.
5. Capital Line South LRT Extension
A traffic configuration change is expected to begin on or around Saturday, November 14, weather permitting, at the intersection of 111 Street and 23 Avenue.
As part of the Capital Line South LRT Extension project, Ledcor will reconfigure lanes to move 23 Avenue into its final alignment while keeping 111 Street in its current position.
All through lanes and turning movements at the intersection are expected to remain open. The new traffic configuration is anticipated to remain in place until summer 2027.
Drivers Urged to Plan Ahead
The City of Edmonton says construction schedules may change due to weather conditions, underground infrastructure and other project-related factors.
Motorists are encouraged to check the City’s online Traffic Disruptions Map for the latest information on road closures, construction activities and detours.
For additional details, residents can visit edmonton.ca and search for the relevant project or contact 311.
The City acknowledges that temporary construction disruptions may cause delays but says the projects are essential to improving Edmonton’s transportation infrastructure for the future.
