Edmonton Drivers Advised to Plan Ahead as Major Road Construction Continue
The City of Edmonton is warning residents to expect traffic delays and road closures as several major construction projects continue across the city between June 12 and June 18.
One of the biggest impacts will be on Yellowhead Trail, where eastbound traffic near 107 Street will be reduced to one lane from June 12 to June 15. Westbound traffic between 97 Street and 107 Street will also be reduced to a single lane overnight on June 12.
Motorists using Whitemud Drive and Terwillegar Drive should also expect delays. Temporary overnight closures and ramp restrictions will be in place during the week of June 15 for sign installation and road expansion work.
Construction is also beginning on Terwillegar Drive at Windermere Boulevard, where changing traffic patterns and congestion are expected. Drivers are encouraged to use alternate routes such as Rabbit Hill Road.
As part of the Valley Line West LRT Project, overnight lane closures will affect Groat Road and the area around 87 Avenue and 189 Street. Some road access will be restricted during rail installation work.
On Anthony Henday Drive, temporary lane closures near 111 Street will be in effect to allow delivery of materials for the Capital Line South Extension project.
Meanwhile, pre-construction work for track rehabilitation at the 51 Avenue and 111 Street intersection will begin on June 18. Some left-turn lanes will be closed during the day and overnight.
Downtown, Judy Padua Way will be fully closed from June 17 to June 19 as part of the 99 Street Streetscaping project.
The City says these projects are being coordinated to improve transportation infrastructure and reduce future disruptions. Residents are encouraged to check the Traffic Disruptions Map and allow extra travel time during their commute.
