Edmonton, July 20, 2026: Recent heavy rainfall has triggered a slope failure near Ezio Faraone Park, forcing the temporary closure of the west sidewalk on Edmonton’s High Level Bridge.
The City of Edmonton and EPCOR announced that the closure began at 12:00 p.m. on July 20 and is expected to last approximately three days while crews carry out emergency repairs.
Construction teams will remove sections of the sidewalk and roadway, clear blocked drainage systems, and stabilize the slope to prevent further erosion.
During the closure, pedestrians must use the southeast staircase before crossing over to the west sidewalk to continue across the bridge. However, this temporary route is not accessible for people using wheelchairs, mobility scooters, or other mobility devices. Cyclists using the staircase will need to carry their bicycles or use the staircase bike rails.
The southeast sidewalk leading to Saskatchewan Drive remains closed because of ongoing slope stability concerns caused by the recent storms.
As the High Level Bridge is one of Edmonton’s busiest active transportation routes across the North Saskatchewan River, city officials are advising pedestrians and cyclists to plan ahead and use alternate river crossings whenever possible.
The City of Edmonton thanked residents for their patience and cooperation as crews complete the emergency safety work.
