Green Shack Programs Offer Free Summer Activities for Children Across Edmonton

June 24, 2026

Children across Edmonton are invited to stay active and engaged this summer through the City’s Green Shack Program, which offers free drop-in activities including games, sports, crafts, music, drama and special events.

The 2026 Green Shack season will run from June 29 to August 21 and is primarily designed for children aged 6 to 12 years, although children of all ages are welcome. Children under six must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. The City notes that the program is recreational in nature and does not provide childcare services.

Program leaders will host a variety of daily activities on weekdays, encouraging children to build friendships, stay active and enjoy the summer outdoors. Weekly schedules of activities and special events will be posted at each Green Shack location.

Program Details

  • Half-day Green Shack sites operate either 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. or 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Select locations offer full-day programming from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Residents can check the Green Shack locations map for operating hours and status updates.
  • Programs run rain or shine but may be cancelled during severe weather conditions.
  • Green Shack leaders wear blue shirts and may be assisted by volunteer leaders.

The City of Edmonton says the program supports its commitment to building healthy, connected communities by providing accessible recreational opportunities that promote social connections and support children’s physical and mental well-being.
