Rising North Saskatchewan River Forces Trail Closures in Edmonton

Edmonton | June 30, 2026

The City of Edmonton has temporarily closed several low-lying trails and river access points along the North Saskatchewan River due to rising water levels and a Provincial High Streamflow Advisory.

The closures have been implemented to protect public safety as fast-moving water and strong currents increase the risk of dangerous conditions.

Closed Trails
Highlands – Dawson Trail

Capilano – Gold Bar Trail

Emily Murphy – Kinsmen Trail

River Loop Trail near Fort Edmonton Park

Additional trail closures are also in effect along Mill Creek, including areas at Jackie Parker Park and the Minchau neighbourhood.

Safety Advisory
The City is urging residents to:

Stay out of the water.

Avoid low-lying areas along the North Saskatchewan River and other natural waterways until further notice.

Follow all trail closure signs and barriers.

Keep pets away from the river and nearby creeks.

Keep boats, kayaks, and other watercraft off the river due to fast-moving water, strong currents, and floating debris.

Officials will continue to monitor river conditions and provide updates as the situation develops. Residents are advised to stay informed and follow all public safety advisories.
